Enrollment Information

These classes are free to the students pending available state funding. A small deposit may be required to secure your seat for a class. Each Continuing Education class requires a minimum of 15 students attending class.

2019-2020 Schedule

Fire Officer I

Course Fee: $300.00 (includes textbook and all required course materials)

This course will focus on the skills new and future fire service officers need to become effective leaders. Topics will include fire service legal responsibilities, human resource management, community relations, pre-incident planning, inspections, personnel safety, emergency services delivery, and other related subjects. This course prepares students to test for MO-DFS certification for Fire Officer I as defined by NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (2014). Students must meet all DFS requirements for enrollment, attendance, participation, and assessment.

This hybrid online/in-class delivery requires mandatory attendance for the following dates and times:

  • Sept 23, 2019: 1300-1500 hrs. – Introduction/Course Log-in
    • Course requirements and schedule will be discussed
  • Nov 19, 2019: 0800-1700 hrs. – Course material review
  • Nov 20, 2019: 0800-1700 hrs. – Practical Skills Book review

Fire Service Instructor I

Course Fee: $300.00 (includes textbook and all required course materials)

This course will focus on the presentation skills new instructors use to deliver prepared lesson plans. Topics will include: understanding the student audience, understanding course outcomes and objectives, instructor preparation, developing presentation skills, using media in the classroom, and appropriate use of assessment instruments.

This course prepares students to test for MO-DFS certification for Fire Service Instructor I as defined by NFPA 1041: Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications (2012). Students must meet all DFS requirements for enrollment, attendance, participation, and assessment. This in-class delivery requires mandatory attendance for the following dates and times:

  • Nov 4-7, 2019: 0800-1700 hrs.
    • This is an in-class course delivery and requires attendance at all sessions for chapter discussions, completion of practical skills assignments, and completion of all chapter quizzes (score of 70% or higher on each quiz)
    • Some practical skills must be completed outside of class sessions
